The organization needed an interactive solution that could provide nurse-like conversational assessment to help patients identify appropriate lab tests based on their symptoms and health concerns. Existing documentation and knowledge bases were heavily text- and PDF-based, making them difficult to use in conversational experiences. The client required a way to interpret existing instructional and medical content, deliver personalized guidance for patients seeking the right lab tests at nearby testing centers, and suggest relevant services within defined safety and regulatory guardrails. They also wanted a rapid, cloud-based prototype to validate feasibility before moving into full-scale production.

Solution: Designing a rapid, compliant prototype that combines chat, PDF interpretation, and service integration

zeb designed and developed a non-production proof-of-concept that showcased how Generative AI could enhance patient interactions for at-home diagnostics:

  • AI-Powered Patient Chatbot: Built a prototype chatbot on AWS using Amazon Bedrock with the Anthropic Claude model to provide conversational, nurse-like guidance tailored to individual patient queries and scenarios.
  • Structured Symptom-to-Test Knowledge Base: We created a structured knowledge base that links patient symptoms and questions to the right lab tests and preparation guidance. Instead of reading PDFs, the chatbot uses this organized data to deliver easy-to-understand patient guidance.
  • Service Promotion Integration: Integrated contextual prompts to suggest the client’s MinuteMed service when appropriate, ensuring seamless linkage between guidance and available clinical services.
  • Compliance & Safety Guardrails: Implemented deterministic guardrails and content filters to maintain medical safety, adhere to regulatory considerations, and limit the prototype to advisory/supportive interactions (non-diagnostic).
  • Rapid Cloud Prototype: Delivered a scalable, cloud-hosted prototype to validate architecture choices and demonstrate realistic performance and user experience.
