How VectorLX Validated and Strengthened Its AWS Architecture Through an AWS Well-Architected Review
Discover how VectorLX partnered with zeb to validate and strengthen its AWS-native architecture through an AWS Well-Architected Framework Review, preparing for secure, reliable, and scalable enterprise growth.

At a Glance
VectorLX is an intelligent learning design platform that helps educators, instructional designers, and curriculum teams create evidence-based courses that improve learning outcomes. By combining research-backed instructional design principles with AI-assisted capabilities, the platform enables institutions to design, evaluate, and optimize courses through automated curriculum alignment, learning outcome mapping, assessment validation, and accreditation readiness.
The Challenge
Preparing an enterprise-ready cloud foundation for production
From the outset, VectorLX prioritized security, reliability, and enterprise readiness as foundational elements of its platform. Before onboarding its first pilot customer, the client engaged zeb to validate its AWS-native architecture against the AWS Well-Architected Framework and identify opportunities to further strengthen the environment.
During the review, the zeb team recognized the strength and maturity of what VectorLX had already accomplished pre-launch, providing a strong foundation for the additional enterprise-readiness enhancements identified through the WAFR.
The review focused on the Security and Reliability pillars, evaluating areas such as encryption and secure connectivity, network visibility, secrets management, incident response, workload resilience, disaster recovery readiness, observability, and operational processes.
The objective was to proactively validate the architecture, strengthen prioritized areas, and establish a cloud foundation aligned with AWS best practices and the requirements of future enterprise growth.
The Solution
Proactive AWS Well-Architected validation and targeted strengthening
zeb worked closely with VectorLX's technical team to evaluate the existing AWS environment and implement prioritized improvements across the Security and Reliability pillars. Following the engagement, 17 of 18 prioritized WAFR findings were fully remediated, further strengthening the AWS environment for enterprise growth.
Strengthened Security and Data Protection
- Enhanced secure connectivity: Strengthened transport security across Application Load Balancers, Amazon S3, and Amazon CloudFront through HTTPS enforcement, approved TLS policies, and secure origin communication. Dedicated security groups were also implemented to provide more controlled access between workloads.
- Improved network visibility and secrets management: Enabled VPC Flow Logs with CloudWatch delivery and 90-day retention, while moving production credentials into AWS Secrets Manager and strengthening credential management across the development environment.
Enhanced Security and Incident Readiness
- Matured development security practices: Introduced automated security controls across the CI/CD lifecycle, including Semgrep SAST, npm dependency auditing, Amazon ECR vulnerability scanning, and TruffleHog secrets detection. A formal penetration-testing plan was also established.
- Improved incident preparedness: Established 15 incident response runbooks covering scenarios such as database and Redis failures, ECS task failures, deployment rollbacks, authentication outages, data breaches, and emergency access. SEV-1 through SEV-4 severity levels and escalation paths were also defined.
Strengthened Reliability and Operational Resilience
- Improved workload resilience: Implemented exponential backoff with jitter across database queries, SQS, Redis, and external AI API calls, along with six kill switches that allow non-critical functionality to be disabled during outages.
- Enhanced operational readiness: Established failure investigation playbooks, disaster recovery drill schedules, CloudWatch monitoring and alerting, and defined event escalation procedures to improve operational continuity and response readiness. AWS X-Ray tracing infrastructure was also implemented, with production activation remaining as an environment configuration step.
The Benefits
A validated foundation for security, reliability, and enterprise growth
The engagement delivered measurable improvements across VectorLX’s AWS environment:
- Improved Cloud Security: 100% of Security Infrastructure findings were remediated, strengthening VectorLX’s overall security posture and supporting a secure foundation for customer growth.
- Enhanced Incident Preparedness: 15 incident response runbooks and defined SEV-1 through SEV-4 procedures provide teams with structured processes to respond consistently and effectively to potential security and operational events.
- Stronger Security Practices: 3 of 4 Security Development Lifecycle areas were fully remediated, improving security maturity and supporting consistent practices as the platform scales.
- Greater Infrastructure Resilience: 100% of Reliability findings were remediated, helping VectorLX maintain dependable platform operations as workloads and customer adoption grow.
- Improved Operational Visibility: Enhanced monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational processes help teams identify potential issues earlier and maintain greater awareness of platform health.
- Foundation for Future Growth: 17 of 18 prioritized WAFR findings were fully remediated, giving VectorLX a more mature AWS foundation aligned with Well-Architected best practices and prepared for enterprise growth.
Conclusion
By proactively engaging zeb for an AWS Well-Architected Framework Review before production rollout, VectorLX validated its AWS-native architecture and further strengthened its security, reliability, and operational readiness. Through close collaboration, the engagement helped implement prioritized improvements while reinforcing an already strong cloud foundation aligned with AWS Well-Architected best practices.
Today, VectorLX enters the market with an AWS-reviewed architecture designed to support enterprise growth, operational resilience, and long-term scalability, demonstrating the value of proactive cloud validation and a strong partnership between VectorLX and zeb.
