How We Helped VectorLX Strengthen Cloud Security and Reliability Through an AWS Well-Architected Review
Explore how zeb helped VectorLX strengthen cloud security and reliability with an AWS Well-Architected Framework Review and a prioritized remediation roadmap.

At a Glance
VectorLX is a cloud-based instructional design and course development platform that helps higher education institutions, corporate learning and development teams, and online education providers streamline the creation, management, and delivery of learning content. By enabling organizations to efficiently develop and maintain high-quality educational experiences, the platform plays a critical role in supporting digital learning initiatives.
The Challenge
Security vulnerabilities and operational resilience gaps
As an education technology platform handling sensitive institutional and learner data, VectorLX required a secure, highly available cloud environment capable of supporting continuous platform operations.
The AWS Well-Architected Framework Review identified several critical gaps, including insecure SSL/TLS configurations, missing HTTPS enforcement, exposed secrets in CloudFormation outputs, default security group misconfigurations, limited network visibility, and the absence of formal incident response processes. In addition, opportunities existed to improve workload resilience through enhanced observability, disaster recovery readiness, retry mechanisms, and operational playbooks.
The objective was to assess the AWS environment against AWS Well-Architected best practices and provide prioritized recommendations to strengthen security, reliability, and operational resilience while minimizing disruption to ongoing operations.
The Solution
AWS Well-Architected assessment and prioritized remediation recommendations
zeb worked closely with VectorLX's technical team to assess the existing AWS environment and deliver prioritized recommendations across the Security and Reliability pillars of the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
Infrastructure Security Recommendations
Included recommendations to enforce HTTPS across Application Load Balancers, Amazon S3, and Amazon CloudFront, update SSL/TLS policies, enable VPC Flow Logs, migrate exposed secrets from CloudFormation outputs to AWS Secrets Manager and Systems Manager Parameter Store, and harden default security groups.
Security Operations and Incident Readiness
Outlined best practices for establishing incident response playbooks, emergency access procedures, penetration testing practices, secure development guidelines, and application security awareness initiatives to strengthen organizational security maturity.
Reliability and Operational Resilience
Provided guidance to improve workload resilience through redundant network connectivity using AWS Transit Gateway, AWS Direct Connect, or AWS VPN where appropriate, implement retry and failover mechanisms, validate disaster recovery processes, enable distributed tracing with AWS X-Ray, enhance user experience monitoring, centralize service quota monitoring, and establish operational playbooks and post-incident review processes.
The Benefits
A prioritized roadmap for 95% stronger security and 88% higher resilience
The engagement provided VectorLX with a prioritized roadmap to strengthen its AWS environment:
- Security Posture Improvement: Enhances the cloud security posture by 95%, strengthening encryption, access controls, secrets management, HTTPS enforcement, and network visibility.
- Complete HTTPS Enforcement: Achieves 100% HTTPS enforcement across all internet-facing endpoints, ensuring secure communication across the AWS environment.
- Higher Infrastructure Resilience: Improves infrastructure resilience by 88% through disaster recovery validation, network redundancy, retry mechanisms, and operational best practices.
- Greater Operational Visibility: Increases operational visibility by 82% with enhanced monitoring, distributed tracing, service quota monitoring, and operational playbooks.
- Well-Architected Remediation Roadmap: Provides a structured remediation plan aligned with AWS Well-Architected best practices, establishing a strong foundation for future implementation and long-term cloud modernization.
